PLEASE READ
This site and jewels would like to state that at no time did i ever see the Cortina Nationals as a finacial gain It was and always will be only about the cars and getting all enthusiats all together in the one spot to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Cortina MK1. I cannot believe after all i have done and all i have dedicated to this event since the conception in 2008 and being the person who originally had the idea of the Cortina Nationals have now being informed after the membership of CMOOC have voted that i am not a fit person to be involved. A sad day but i will accept the decision and move on.

The rear diff
The extra horsepower the 4 door produces made it difficult for the standard GT diff and GT axles to keep up with the task. We had to make a decision on what the alternatives were around.

..................................................................................................

The center options
The Borg Warner 'tin plate' was considered as it has good strong axles and is fitted to many cars. E.G.: Falcons, Sigma's and Commodore just to name a few. So parts and ratios could be found fairly easily, a drawback though, was that it is not a 'drop in' center. It is a Salisbury type diff, not the easiest or quickest type of diff to do a center change.

Next to consider was the Ford 9 inch. The 9 inch has been a common conversion in just about any car that has ever made more horsepower than the manufacturer intended. The plus's with this diff is that there are many ratios available, many aftermarket parts and modifications that can be made to it. It also has a more 'user' friendly type of 'drop in' center. One major drawback is the weight. But taking this all into consideration we went with 9 inch as we already have other ratios to use if we choose. This LSD diff is fitted with a Harrop alloy carrier, steel hat and pinion support. Fitting this diff meant we didn't have to worry about rear end failure so much.

..................................................................................................

The axles
We had fitted 28 spline axles to the diff. They were fine up until they failed on the start line at Calder park Friday night street drag back February 2006. After that failure we had no choice but to fit 31 spline custom axles. We choose the only Australian maker of Hi Performance axles now GDS in Geelong.

The rear housing and center was fabricated by local diff guru Dennis Smith. Much time and expertise was put into ensuring correct alignment and tolerances We thank him for his patience and help with our projects over the years.

..................................................................................................

Salisbury diff
This a good idea and good conversion for a MK1s. Changing to a Commodore borg warner salisbury diff using Commodore disk brakes. We have used this diff on several conversions we have done. Fitted with 4 pinion LSD 4.1 center.
