PLEASE READ
This site and jewels would like to state that at no time did i ever see the Cortina Nationals as a finacial gain It was and always will be only about the cars and getting all enthusiats all together in the one spot to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Cortina MK1. I cannot believe after all i have done and all i have dedicated to this event since the conception in 2008 and being the person who originally had the idea of the Cortina Nationals have now being informed after the membership of CMOOC have voted that i am not a fit person to be involved. A sad day but i will accept the decision and move on.

Problem areas on Cortina MK1s
When looking a purchasing a MK1 Cortina there are some common areas on the car you should look for rust. Of course it depends on where the car has come from in the first place, cars located on coastal areas are always going to be prone to more areas of rust than those located inland.

Here are a few of the more common areas to look for.
Door corners
Sills
Spare wheel well
Fuel tank edges
Front floors

..................................................................................................
How we have rated the rust
We have also put a rating on what we consider to be typical, minor to bad rust.

Minor = Appearance is of small bubbles. No holes, paint still covering the area. This is typical to what you will find in any unrestored Cortina MK1. Repairable with some steel replacement

Bad = Larger area of bubbling some holes through the steel. Rusty color staining through the paint. Surface very thin and weak.

Real bad = Large holes in surface area red rusty thin perforated surface. Places where no steel exists anymore. Major steel area replacement required
..................................................................................................

Don't worry all can be repaired with a time and patience. We are lucky here in Australia as we don't get the worst rust like in the UK. They replace inner guards , guards (wings); chassis components and strut top areas are nearly all expected to be replaced in a restoration.
